Industry / Biogas & Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG)

Plant automation, gas-quality monitoring, and digital reporting.

Biogas and Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) facilities convert organic waste, agricultural residue, and cattle dung into green fuel under India's circular bioenergy initiatives. Swaelite Solutions provides industrial automation, Web SCADA, and edge data integration for CBG and biogas plants—connecting field instrumentation (gas analysers, mass flow meters, digester transmitters, and compressor skids) to provide continuous operational visibility, fuel-quality assurance under IS 16087, and structured documentation for GOBARdhan portal reporting and PNGRB pipeline injection.

01 / Common challenges

What makes biogas & compressed bio-gas (cbg) difficult to track?

01

Verifiable production & compliance documentation

Central schemes like the National Circular Bioenergy Scheme (FY27–FY36) and portal registrations require verifiable operational records. Plants need automated logging of daily production, flaring, and mass balance to support statutory reporting and audits.

02

Fuel quality & continuous gas analysis

Commercial automotive and grid-injected CBG must comply with IS 16087 standards (minimum 90% CH4, tight CO2 and H2S limits). Unmonitored purification variations risk off-spec gas reaching storage cascades or pipeline injection skids.

03

Heterogeneous field protocols & legacy controllers

Field instruments—ranging from NDIR gas analysers and thermal mass flow meters to compressor PLCs—utilize diverse communication standards (RS-485 Modbus RTU/TCP, 4-20 mA, Ethernet) requiring unified edge consolidation.

04

Hazardous area electrical safety & continuous operation

Biogas processing units operate under classified hazardous atmospheres (Zone 1 / Zone 2). Instrumentation and telemetry gateways must meet flameproof and intrinsically safe installation standards without causing unscheduled plant downtime.

02 / How we help

Solutions for biogas & compressed bio-gas (cbg).

03 / Equipment & starting points

Typical equipment in biogas & compressed bio-gas (cbg).

  • Thermal mass, Coriolis and ultrasonic gas flow meters (raw biogas and purified CBG in Nm³/hr or kg/hr)
  • Continuous multi-gas analysers (NDIR Methane CH4 % and Carbon Dioxide CO2 %)
  • Continuous H2S gas analysers (electrochemical / optical) and desulphurisation system instrumentation
  • Anaerobic digester temperature sensors and dual-point pressure transmitters
  • Compressor booster skids, automated safety relief valve monitoring, and flare stack thermocouples
  • Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) / bio-slurry weighbridge logging and dispatch records
Where we begin

We evaluate your plant instrumentation schedule and available controller communication interfaces (RS-485 Modbus, Ethernet, or analog loops). Integration methodology is designed to respect site hazardous-area classifications and minimise production disruption. Swaelite configures an industrial edge platform that consolidates flow, gas composition, and pressure readings into local operator dashboards and automated reporting archives.

04 / Example scenarios

Illustrative starting points.

01

Commercial CBG plant gas-quality & SCADA integration

Interface edge gateways with raw biogas flow meters, NDIR gas analysers, and compressor PLC registers on a commercial CBG facility. Deliver real-time browser SCADA tracking CH4 purity against IS 16087 and generating automated daily production summaries.

02

Agri-waste biogas & bio-slurry mass-balance logging

Consolidate multiple anaerobic digester pressure/temperature transmitters, flare stack thermocouples, and FOM weighbridge entries into a central logging system to maintain accurate mass-balance records for environmental and scheme compliance audits.

Example starting points. Suitability depends on your equipment and project requirements.

05 / Practical questions

Know what to ask.

Which GOBARdhan registration portal should our plant use?

Under Government of India guidelines, general rural/industrial Biogas plants register on gobardhan.sbm.gov.in (managed by the Ministry of Jal Shakti / DDWS). Commercial Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG / Bio-CNG) plants register on the dedicated CBG portal at gobardhan.eil.co.in, maintained by Engineers India Limited under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG).

How does the system ensure compliance with BIS fuel-quality standards?

Automotive and piped CBG must satisfy IS 16087:2016 (and its latest amendments), requiring minimum 90% CH4 by volume, maximum 4% CO2, and strict moisture/H2S thresholds. Swaelite Web SCADA logs these parameters from online analysers and triggers automated visual alerts if gas composition drifts towards off-spec limits.

What is required for injecting CBG into natural gas pipelines (CGD/NGPL)?

Under PNGRB regulations, plants injecting CBG into City Gas Distribution or Natural Gas Pipeline networks must install a dedicated metering and gas-quality skid monitoring flow rate, pressure, and gas composition in real time, with data-sharing enabled for the transmission utility. Swaelite connects with metering skids to support these operational data-sharing needs.

Does edge gateway installation require shutting down digesters or compression skids?

Integration methodology is planned around your plant operating schedule to minimise downtime. Where instruments provide available digital interfaces (RS-485 Modbus or Ethernet), connections are established non-intrusively without halting gas compression. Any physical tapping or electrical isolation is coordinated during planned plant maintenance intervals.

What financial incentives are available for CBG projects in 2026?

Under the GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme approved by the Union Cabinet on 6 August 2026 (outlay ₹23,731 crore for FY27–FY36), eligible greenfield CBG projects may receive capital assistance up to ₹2 crore per TPD of installed capacity, along with assured offtake at administered pricing (announced at ₹2,110/MMBTU) and pipeline infrastructure support, subject to applicable guidelines and scheme eligibility.
