    Check what is accessible

    Review supported controller interfaces (RS-485 Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Fanuc FOCAS, OPC UA) or assess external sensing before selecting gateway hardware.

    Define the signal list

    Agree each signal’s meaning, timestamp, expected update interval and how an unavailable reading will be represented.

  3. 03

    Validate a small connection

    Compare collected readings with the machine or operator record, then review how the connection behaves during an interruption.

What to establish before proceeding

A gateway cannot create measurements that a machine does not expose. Additional sensors, current transformers (CTs), access permissions or other hardware may be needed. The integration must respect the machine’s safety circuits and operating constraints.

Know what to ask.

Can brownfield CNC machines and PLCs be retrofitted without replacing controllers?

Yes. Our standard engineering methodology is PLC-preserving retrofit. We interface with the machine's existing communication ports (such as RS-485 Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Fanuc FOCAS, or OPC UA) or attach non-invasive external sensors and current transformers (CTs). The machine's existing ladder logic, safety circuits, and PLC hardware remain completely intact and operational.

Can older machines without digital controllers be connected?

Yes. For legacy relay-controlled or analog machines, we use non-invasive current transformers (CT clamps) on spindle motors, 24V digital I/O taps from existing stack lights, or auxiliary relay contacts to reliably extract run/idle status and cycle times without modifying machine circuits.

Does edge computing require the cloud?

No. Local processing and cloud services are separate choices. The agreed design determines which functions stay on site and which information is shared. Systems can run entirely on an on-premise local server or industrial edge PC without requiring an active internet connection.
