Industrial IoT / CBG Plant Intelligence & GOBARdhan Reporting Integration

CBG Monitoring & Reporting.

CBG Plant Intelligence integrates commercial Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) and biogas plant instrumentation—including thermal mass flow meters, continuous gas analysers (CH4, CO2, H2S), digester transmitters, and compressor skids—into an industrial edge platform. It provides real-time SCADA visualisation, IS 16087 quality tracking, historical logging, and structured reporting aligned with the GOBARdhan CBG framework.

01 / In plain language

What is cbg plant intelligence & gobardhan reporting integration?

CBG Plant Intelligence integrates commercial Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) and biogas plant instrumentation—including thermal mass flow meters, continuous gas analysers (CH4, CO2, H2S), digester transmitters, and compressor skids—into an industrial edge platform. It provides real-time SCADA visualisation, IS 16087 quality tracking, historical logging, and structured reporting aligned with the GOBARdhan CBG framework.

Useful for operational and upcoming CBG and biogas facilities seeking reliable on-site SCADA visibility, fuel-quality assurance under IS 16087, PNGRB pipeline injection metering integration, and structured production records for GOBARdhan portal documentation.

02 / Before we begin

A useful starting point.

Bring these details to the first conversation:

  • Gas analyser make, model (NDIR CH4 %, CO2 %, optical/electrochemical H2S sensor) and communication interfaces (RS-485 Modbus RTU/TCP, 4-20 mA, Ethernet)
  • Gas flow meter specifications (thermal mass, ultrasonic, Coriolis in Nm³/hr or kg/hr) and digester temperature/pressure transmitter ratings
  • Plant operating architecture: raw biogas production, purification stages, compressor cascade, and pipeline injection or cascade filling stations
  • Applicable reporting parameters, PNGRB metering skid requirements, or GOBARdhan registration details (Biogas: gobardhan.sbm.gov.in / CBG: gobardhan.eil.co.in)
An illustrative example

Integrate mass flow meters and continuous gas analysers on a commercial CBG plant into a unified SCADA and compliance reporting interface.

03 / The approach

Define. Connect. Review.

  1. 01

    Site & Instrumentation Audit

We review existing gas analysers, mass flow meters, PLCs, and safety classifications. Integration methods (RS-485 Modbus, analog signals, Ethernet) are planned to respect hazardous-area classifications (Zone 1 / Zone 2) and minimise production disruption.

  2. 02

    Edge Acquisition & SCADA Configuration

An industrial edge gateway reads flow rates, gas composition (CH4 %, CO2 %, H2S ppm), digester pressure, and temperatures at configurable intervals (down to 60 seconds where supported). Data is logged locally with full timestamping and displayed on responsive browser dashboards.

  3. 03

    Structured Logging & Reporting Integration

We configure automated production summaries, gas-quality logs compliant with IS 16087 parameters, and data preparation routines for GOBARdhan portal reporting and authorised pipeline entity data-sharing where applicable.

What to establish before proceeding

Monitoring and edge logging are separate from safety instrumented systems and machine control. Swaelite interfaces non-intrusively and does not alter anaerobic digestion biology, emergency shutdown systems, or certified pressure-relief valves. Swaelite does not guarantee Government approvals, financial subsidy disbursements, or third-party commercial contracts.

04 / Practical questions

Know what to ask.

Which GOBARdhan portal applies to our facility?

The Government of India maintains separate portals: gobardhan.sbm.gov.in (administered by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti) is the Unified Registration Portal for general Biogas plants. For commercial Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG / Bio-CNG) plants, the dedicated portal is gobardhan.eil.co.in, maintained by Engineers India Limited under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG).

Does Swaelite connect directly via a Government GOBARdhan API?

The GOBARdhan portals currently serve as central national registries and scheme administration platforms. There is no public, universally mandated real-time telemetry API for the portal. Swaelite provides industrial on-site data acquisition, SCADA monitoring, and structured report generation to assist plant operators in maintaining verifiable compliance records for portal reporting and audits.

How does the system support PNGRB pipeline injection and CGD integration?

Under PNGRB guidelines for injecting CBG into City Gas Distribution (CGD) and Natural Gas Pipelines (NGPL), metering skids monitor real-time flow rate, consumption, pressure, and gas quality, with online data-sharing capabilities for the transmission entity. Swaelite interfaces with metering skids and continuous gas analysers to log these parameters and support authorised telemetry protocols.

What fuel-quality standards apply to commercial CBG?

Commercial and automotive CBG in India is governed by Bureau of Indian Standards specification IS 16087:2016 (and its applicable revisions), which prescribes minimum 90% Methane (CH4) by volume, maximum 4% Carbon Dioxide (CO2), moisture limits, and maximum Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) levels. Swaelite tracks these gas-composition parameters in real time to ensure operators can detect purification deviations before gas enters storage or injection skids.

Does installing the monitoring system require plant shutdown?

Integration methodology is planned to minimise plant disruption. Where controllers and instruments provide available communication ports (such as RS-485 Modbus or Ethernet), connections are established without interrupting digester operations or gas compression. Any required physical sensor tapping or electrical isolation is scheduled during planned maintenance windows in accordance with site safety procedures.

What incentives exist under the current 2026 GOBARdhan framework?

On 6 August 2026, the Government of India approved the 'GOBARdhan — National Circular Bioenergy Scheme' administered through MoPNG for FY 2026-27 to FY 2035-36 with a ₹23,731 crore outlay. The scheme includes an assured CBG offtake framework, an administered CBG price framework (announced at ₹2,110/MMBTU), capital assistance for eligible greenfield CBG projects up to ₹2 crore per TPD of installed capacity, and pipeline connectivity support, subject to official guidelines and project eligibility.
